My L.O.T.U.S. Moments

You may have noticed the lotus flower as the website icon as well as a part of the Hope In Her logo. That isn’t by chance. The Lotus is the only flower that has roots in mud, at the bottom of streams and ponds. It’s the only flower that blooms in spite of the darkness that surrounds it. Just like a lotus flower, we have the ability to rise above our dark moments and bloom into the beautiful beings we’re meant to be. My L.O.T.U.S. (Lessons in Overcoming Trauma and Understanding Our Strength) Moments podcast and blog is a reminder that you can grow beyond and learn from your dark moments.

There is Hope in her, Part 3

My supervisor had just given me a supreme revelation, leaving me with a giant task in which I had no idea where to start. I could mention how, from 2010-2013, I tried periodically and failed to write. I put it off because I was discouraged by those around me, unmotivated to write, and had no direction as to which way to go. It’s funny how God will protect your gift and hold off on allowing you to birth it when He knows the time is not right. I was unable to write anything productive during that time, but there was not a day that I can recall the idea that didn’t linger in my mind. That’s how I know it was something meant for me to do.

Starting grad school was a leap of courage for me. I was full of fear and doubted my abilities to succeed in anything because I had failed so miserably before. If you don’t know, I flunked out of nursing school, my senior year. It was devastating for me because I saw myself as nothing more than a failure. Until that point, I considered myself to be academically apt so I took it hard and carried the disappointment and failure with me. The trauma of my failure haunted me throughout grad school despite my consistent good grades. Social work came naturally to me.

I Owe You An Explanation: Truth Is, I've Been Struggling

Every day, since that day in March, has been a battle, to say the least. I’ve had to cancel events because I was unsure of what the future would hold for me. Would I have to leave Korea? I felt like, and still do, I was on the longest emotional rollercoaster in my life. The battle continues.
